Inspired by a new genre of crowdsourced films, “1 July 2017—A Day In Transition” will document changes or transitions in life as they relate to Hong Kong on 1 July 2017—the 20th anniversary of the city’s transfer of sovereignty from Britain to China—through the eyes of people who care about Hong Kong and events related to the city. This is a film on Hong Kong for Hong Kong.
With a simple smartphone camera or other recording devices, anyone can participate by capturing their views, observations, thoughts and feelings about this historic day. Submissions are open to anyone from anywhere in the world and will be accepted in any language. Videos should be up to two minutes in length, and multiple submissions are encouraged. This is a rare opportunity for people to tell the real Hong Kong story and its many transitional moments through their experiences of 1 July 2017—an amazing chance to become a part of Hong Kong history.
Ms Yan-yan Yip, CEO of the WYNG Foundation says, “The WMA Film project is an exciting addition to our series of WMA programmes designed to raise public awareness of social issues in Hong Kong and spur community participation through art in its many forms. This WMA Film project complements the WYNG Foundation’s philosophy of giving back to the community by empowering individuals and institutions through information exchange platforms in the areas of academics, media and urban initiatives.
