
Visual Storytelling Workshop with Kevin WY Lee
Thank you for your feedback on our visual storytelling workshops! We hear that you would like to have more of those, some with different focus. Our latest round of Visual Storytelling workshop, aimed for those who use or wish to use images as part of awareness raising, educational, and fundraising campaigns, will be conducted in English.
The four-weekend workshop is facilitated by Kevin WY Lee, founder of Invisible Photographer Asia (IPA), and past juror of WMA Masters. He has designed the contents for those working across a spectrum of issues, including human rights, humanitarian, environmental and social ones. Robert Godden, founder of Rights Exposure will also speak at one session to discuss the concept of “Informed Consent”.

Details of the workshop:
Capacity: 10 groups
- With priority for members of civil societies and researchers and students
- Participants can join as an individual or in a group of up to two persons.
- To ensure smooth discussion, the two persons are expected to sign into a session together, under one account
Session 1: 7/11 (Sat) 14:30-17:30
- Introduction to storytelling with images
- How to look at and edit images and construct narratives through pairing and sequencing a series of images
Session 2: 14/11 (Sat) 14:30-17:30
- Guest lecture by Robert Godden on “Informed Consent” when working with subjects on photo stories
- Review of editing assignment
- Participants will be asked to think of their own projects to pursue in the end of class
Session 3: 21/11 (Sat) 14:30-17:30
- Participants will pitch and present their intended projects
- Feedback and critique from facilitator and peers
Session 4: 5/12 (Sat) 14:30-17:30
- Participants will present their projects
- Feedback and critique from facilitator and peers
How to apply:
- Anyone aged 16 or above is eligible to apply, participants need not have any photographic knowledge or skills, but basic English proficiency is expected.
- Participants can join as an individual or in a group of up to two persons and have to log in together using the same computer.

- The workshop is free of charge, A deposit of HK$500/person will be required after the application is confirmed. The full amount will be refunded after the participant(s) has attended all the 4 sessions, submitted the photo story project, artist statement and contributed at least two images of yours (per person) to WMA Open, our online image archive (https://open.wma.hk/en), please include a screenshot of this upload in the email to us.

About the instructor
Kevin WY Lee is a photographer and creative director based in Singapore. He founded Invisible Photographer Asia (IPA), an influential platform for Photography & Visual Arts in Asia.
Kevin participates vigorously in photography and art across the region as a practitioner, curator and educator, including the Angkor Photo Festival (Cambodia), Prix Pictet Award, PhotoQuai Biennale. Kevin’s solo exhibition AESTHETICITY was presented at DECK in 2018, ‘Hundred Daughters Hundred Patience Hundred Meals’ is his latest publication.
