The WMA Masters seeks to foster the growth of photography as an art form in Hong Kong, as well as to spark dialogue and nurture awareness on social issues in the city. Each year, a theme is chosen for the award. In the inaugural 2012/13 cycle, the theme was “Poverty”. This was followed by “Waste”, “Air”, and “Identity”. This year’s theme is “Mobility”, and the theme for the 2017/18 cycle is “Transition”.
The WMA Masters’ international panel of judges comprises industry leaders in photography, art, publishing, and the non-profit sector. They include Zoher Abdoolcarim, MaryAnn Camilleri, Abby Chen, Anthony Po-shan Leung, Christopher Phillips, Kevin W.Y. Lee and Paul Zimmerman. The winner of the award will be announced at the opening of the exhibition.
The exhibition featuring finalists for the theme, “Mobility”, will be held at Comix Home Base from 14 April to 6 May 2017. The WMA Masters will also host a series of public programs during the exhibition period. The exhibition will be curated by the Hong Kong-based C&G Artpartment.
