‘Irregular Plural’ unfolds a trilogy of dual exhibitions that begins with an inquiry into “Who” we are, followed by a search for “Where” we find our sense of home, and culminates in an exploration of “What” defines the concept of home itself. The final opus of this series bears the title ‘Commune’. WMA has commissioned artists Yim Sui Fong and Lo Wan Ki, known for their active engagement in the community through artistic interventions, to create multimedia installations The Third Person and Internal Sonata. As the two sets of new works demonstrate the artists’ interpretation of communal dwelling, they also present a participatory display that invites introspection and self-examination: all of us are born into some kinship, community, and class. However, what material and emotional conditions cultivate a true sense of belonging, and ultimately, the making of “home”? In a community characterised by diverse values and rhythms, how might we pursue and foster a site of cohabitation, with equity and autonomy?

18/11 (Sat)
3:30pm - 4:30pm The Third Person Workshop

As a community, how might we evolve through inevitable clashes?

Artist Yim Sui Fong’s “The Third Person Workshop” is inspired by process theatre and conversations with peers from non-profit organisations in her work The Third Person. During the workshop, the artist will invite participants to wear caps adorned with a careful selection of nouns, is/not sentences, and analogies. Participants subsequently put on a different identity to engage in conversations with strangers about various beliefs and values.

4:30pm - 5:15pm "Inner Sonata" Script Reading

The many voices at a home often take place in an individual’s inner self as well. If you were to open that door, what would you hear?

The Inner Sonata Script Reading Workshop invites participants to perform the conflicting monologues and dialogues from artist Lo Wan Ki’s new work, Inner Sonata. Facilitated by the artist, the experience hopes to instigate thoughts and discussions surrounding home and diaspora.
