Here, There, Everywhere – A Pop-up Exhibition about Hong Kong Trash by TRES Art Collective

Revisiting Hong Kong after the debut of ‘Ubiquitous Trash - Hong Kong Edition’ in 2016, Mexican art research collective TRES, the grant recipient for the WMA Commission 2015 upon the theme of “Waste”, will present at the Global Research Forum on Sustainable Production and Consumption 2019 at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and hold a pop-up exhibition titled Here, There and Everywhere’ at the WMA Space from 25- 30 June 2019.

Through the use of Art-Based research, TRES collect different marine debris during their field trips and unveil their imaginary and material life cycle through their work. Inspired by Actor-Network Theory, they weave a series of associations between objects, but also between other non-human agents, such as Bryozoa, tiny sea critters that dwell on plastic. Their current investigation examines the hybridization of plastic, and questions the ecology behind the plastic condemnation.

During this visit, TRES members Ilana Boltvinik and Rodrigo Vines will invite a group of members from the public to join them to revisit Lap Sap Wan, a site at which they have collected much materials for their Ubiquitous Trash - Hong Kong Collection four years ago.

‘It is not going to be a regular beach clean-up,’ explains TRES about the planned visit to Lap Sap Wan. ‘We will share with participants our practice and look together for a particular kind of trash and explore its lives and materiality. " TRES will create artwork out of the “gems” found in this workshop which will be shown at the pop-up exhibition.

The pop-up exhibition - Here, There and Everywhere will showcase TRES’ photographic works from ‘Ubiquitous Trash - Hong Kong Edition’, their research drawings, new findings and creations through the beach visit in 2019.
