About Student

The WYNG Philomathia Student Essay Contest, also known as WMA Student, aims to help local fourth and fifth-form students develop a greater awareness towards social issues by encouraging them to submit short essays based on the themed works of WMA Masters winners and finalists. These photographic works serve as a springboard for young writers to express their views towards social issues tied to the cycle’s given theme. With this objective in mind, contest’s finalists will be invited to the WMA annual exhibition to explore the theme with other WMA awards’ participants.

Another objective of the contest, now in its sixth cycle, is to give Hong Kong students the opportunity to visit the University of Cambridge and apply for admission there. Writers of the winning entries will be invited to a weeklong, all-expenses paid trip to the UK, which includes a tour of the University of Cambridge, as well as a visit to London.
