The WYNG Philomathia Student Essay Contest aims to help local fourth and fifth-form students develop a greater awareness towards social issues by encouraging them to submit short essays based on the themed works of WMA award winners and finalists. These works serve as a springboard for young writers to develop a greater awareness towards social issues tied to the cycle’s given theme.
Another objective of the contest, now in its fifth cycle, is to give Hong Kong students the opportunity to visit the University of Cambridge and apply for admission there: writers of the winning entries will be invited to a weeklong, all-expenses paid trip to the UK, which includes a tour of the University of Cambridge, as well as a visit to London.
With these objectives in mind, the WYNG Foundation has also been organising for the contest’s finalists talks by representatives of the University of Cambridge alongside Friends of Cambridge Hong Kong, and the other organisers of the contest: Trinity Hall, the Hong Kong Association of Careers Masters and Guidance Masters, and the Philomathia Foundation.
